Who we are ...

The Suffolk Soaring Club is based at Rougham Airfield, just to the east of Bury St Edmunds. We are dedicated to cross country glider racing and flying, one of the most exciting sport aviation activities. Our members are mostly pilots who are totally committed to the sport, and many of us regularly fly in Regional and National competitions.

We have members of a wide range of ages, abilities and aspirations drawn together by a love of the sport of gliding. Our club is an associate member of the British Gliding Association, which is the governing body for gliding and soaring in the United Kingdom.

We welcome visitors.

Rougham Airfield When we launch

Rougham Airfield is on the site of a WWII bomber field, where American B17 Flying Fortress bombers were based. The former runways have long since been removed, and two grass runways are now used. ... more

We will launch our gliders on most days when conditions are suitable for soaring flight. Once launched we will normally fly a "task" around turning points and later return to Rougham.
